An unmissable musical event for more than 45 years, the Musiques Métisses festival has showcased artists on the world stage and continues to be on the lookout for new or established talent by exploring the planet in search of new nuggets. For three days, the first weekend of June, the world arrives in Angoulême: three days of diversity, spectacle, celebration and mixing on the banks of the Charente!
Concerts, literary encounters, shows for young audiences, film screenings, exhibitions and events of all kinds, the Musiques Métisses festival offers all the ingredients for a unique experience. A journey beyond borders and genres that will certainly lead to cultivating one's curiosity!

Founded in 1976 by Christian Mousset under the name Jazz in France, the event was initially devoted to jazz and French and European improvised music.
Quickly, he begins to integrate popular and urban music from Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Indian Ocean. It was then the first event to showcase artists from the overseas departments whose audience had until then been limited to audiences from the French overseas departments and territories.
From 1985, to make sense with the progressive integration in the programming of these musical currents, the term "Métis Music" appeared on the poster of the festival, then the event took the title "Jazz and Music Métis". in 1986, before becoming "Musiques Métisses" in 1990.
On the occasion of the 24th edition in May 1999, Littératures Métisses, the literary section of the festival, was born. Novels or comics, short stories, essays or poetry, the books of the invited authors combine individual destinies with the collective destiny of peoples. Littératures Métisses is an invitation to literary walks with flavors from elsewhere.
Playing a pioneering role, the festival promotes the discovery of the richness and diversity of current world music and its importance in the "world sound system", and combats the idea that only Europeans, in particular Anglo-Saxons, and Americans, have a monopoly on modernity.
Many internationally recognized musicians made their first major French stage in Angoulême, including Salif Keita, Johnny Clegg, Bonga, Khaled, Cheb Mami, Compay Segundo, Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Danyèl Waro, Rokia Traoré, Kassav', Doudou N 'diaye Rose, Ismaël Lo, Fal Frett, Elida Almeida…
On the occasion of the 2019 edition, the festival changes site to settle on the Esplanade des Chais Magelis and its surroundings, in a green setting on the banks of the Charente.
A unique site at the foot of the town of Angoulême!
